Llanwern Golf Club was founded in 1928 by 3 local businessmen and was accessed by road and rail attracting players from far afield.
The Railway Station, on the main South Wales to London line, is 200 yards from the clubhouse and became victim of the 1960's rationalisation and was closed by the infamous Dr Beeching although the club and local villagers have hopes of it being re-opened sometime in the future.
An exhibition match, celebrating the completion of the 18 holes was held on 28th July 1937 featuring the legendary Walter Hagan partnered by Joe Kirkwood.
